Machine Shop: 490 Jobs

The first step for all jobs is to meet with the shop manager -

490 Jobs for Students

  • ALL jobs are completed FIFO (First In, First Out), except for high priority jobs (for research only).
  • As of January 1, 2009 shop fees are $15.00 per/hr.  High Priority stays @ $50.00 per/hr.
  • All 490 jobs must be submitted before the advertised deadline each semester to be completed on time! The deadline is sent via email to the faculty teaching 490 classes at the beginning of the semester.
  • NEXT DUE DATE    XX/XX/XXXX
  • The shop supervisor will provide an estimated date to completion and a cost estimate as quickly as possible. The estimated date to completion will depend on the number of high priority jobs.   The larger the number of high priority jobs the longer the estimated date to completion will become for the standard job submissions.   Because of high priority jobs your estimated start and completion date may change.  The complexity of your parts and the availability of material will also affect duration of your job.
  • The number of machinists dedicated to standard jobs will depend on the number of high priority jobs in the queue. High priority jobs always take precedence over standard jobs, so that the larger number of high priority jobs in the queue, the fewer the number of machinists dedicated to standard jobs. However, at least one machinist will always be dedicated to standard submissions at all times.
